About the Accessibility Checker

What does this tool actually check?

It checks a live URL (or pasted HTML) for missing image alt text, missing form labels, empty links and buttons, vague link text like "click here", heading order problems, and, for a full page, a missing language attribute, page title, or viewport tag.

Does a good score mean my site is fully accessible?

No. This tool catches common, easy-to-automate issues, similar to what automated tools like Lighthouse or WAVE check. A high score is a good sign, but manual testing with a screen reader and keyboard-only navigation is the only way to confirm real-world accessibility.

Is this a replacement for a full WCAG audit?

No. It is a fast first pass to catch obvious problems. A full WCAG 2.1 AA audit covers colour contrast, keyboard traps, ARIA usage and more than an automated paste-and-check tool can reasonably cover.

Why This Matters

Accessibility issues quietly turn away visitors who use screen readers or keyboard navigation, and in some jurisdictions can create real legal risk under laws like the ADA. Most common issues, such as missing alt text or unlabeled form fields, take minutes to fix once you know they are there — the hard part is finding them in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my website get sued over accessibility issues?

Yes — ADA-related website lawsuits and demand letters have become increasingly common in the United States, even for small business websites. Fixing common issues like missing alt text and unlabeled forms meaningfully reduces that risk.

What is the easiest accessibility fix to start with?

Adding alt text to images and making sure every form field has a label. Both are quick to fix once identified and cover two of the most common, most impactful issues on small business websites.

Do accessibility fixes help SEO too?

Often, yes. Descriptive alt text, a logical heading structure and clear link text all help search engines understand a page too, so accessibility improvements frequently double as on-page SEO improvements.
